SiO2 is the molecular formula but exists only in a lattice form (above). Silicon dioxide is a silicon oxide made up of linear triatomic molecules in which a silicon atom is covalently bonded to two oxygens. The molecule is polar and has polar bonds. We can see that ICl5 follows the shape AX5E1, which corresponds to square pyramidal (asymmetrical). The molecular geometry of ICl5 is square pyramid with an asymmetric electron region distribution. As a result, the net dipole moment of PCl5 comes out to be zero. PCl5 is nonpolar in nature because it has the symmetrical geometrical structure due to which the polarity of P-Cl bonds gets canceled by each other. That means that the lp-Cl-lp angle is 120 deg and each lone pair also has a 120 deg angle with the equatorial fluoride and 90 deg angles with the axial fluorides. However, in ClF3, with steric number five, chlorine’s two lone pairs are placed in the equatorial positions. The geometry of the molecule is square planar. Which hybridization is predicted for CL in ClF3? SO3 S O 3 is the only one with a bond angle of 120-degrees.
